- 5th January 2022 – For Immediate Release
- Coast Around Tasmania Trip Postponed for February
- Rescheduled date to be announced in the coming weeks
In light of the current outbreak of COVID-19 cases in Australia, the Coast Around Tasmania team have come to the difficult decision to postpone their expedition to circumnavigate Tasmania until a future date.
The expedition was scheduled for 9 days, starting from the 19th of February.
The event organisers of Coast Around Tasmania stated that this decision was made to ensure the health and wellbeing of the entire team travelling as well as the local supporters which remain to be the main concern.
Chief Circumnavigation Officer, Shane Ridley said, “We have decided it would be irresponsible for us to undertake the voyage, including taking 7 people through 3 states setting records daily and circulating through Tasmania with public events.”
“We have looked at multiple options to do the trip on the set dates, including flying direct to Tasmania and cancelling the public and fundraising events, but in the end, we have all agreed this was the safest option”.
The trip is set to be postponed to the next available time based on the state of COVID-19 regulations and a safe suitable weather window.
Adam Benz, Head of Adventure said, “Postponing the Coast Around Tasmania adventure, does not mean postponing our training and adventuring, and we look forward to sharing our plans for 2022 in the coming days as we continue to demonstrate PWC adventure riding whilst promoting suicide prevention and mental health awareness.”
“We thank you for your support on this journey so far and encourage you to continue to follow.” said the Coast Around Tasmania team.
